The Philosophy

Built by Nature.
Perfected by Tradition.

Our cottages are shaped by centuries of Indian earth-building wisdom — a living architecture that regulates its own climate, honours its landscape, and offers unforgettable comfort.

01

Naturally Cool in Summer

Traditional mud walls keep interiors up to 5°C cooler than concrete — no artificial climate needed.

02

Warm in Winter

Earthen mass retains gentle warmth through Rajasthan's cold desert nights.

03

Breathable Architecture

Porous walls exchange humidity, keeping the air fresh, dry, and profoundly still.

04

Sustainable by Design

Every material sourced within a 10km radius. Zero-cement, low-embodied-carbon construction.

05

Silent Sanctuary

Thick straw-bound walls absorb sound, offering a rare and meditative quiet.

06

Heritage Luxury

Centuries-old craft, contemporary comforts — fine linens, thoughtful service, curated stillness.

Ancient Cooling Technology

The physics of an earthen wall

A four-part daily rhythm that has kept Indian villages comfortable for centuries — silent, mechanical-free, endlessly renewable.

01. Absorption

Thick Earthen Walls

Sun-baked mud walls, eighteen inches thick, block the intense Rajasthan afternoon heat.

02. Thermal Lag

Slow Diffusion

Heat travels through the earthen mass slowly — delayed by eight to twelve hours.

03. Night Release

Cool Evening Exchange

As the desert cools, stored warmth radiates outward — never reaching the interior.

04. Comfort

Steady Interior

Inside temperatures remain a serene 24°C throughout the day and into the night.

A living wall system

The Science

Four elements of ancient comfort

Every wall in our estate is composed of four humble, locally gathered materials — a formula refined across generations of Rajasthan's master masons.

01
Yellow Clay

Local Aravalli earth — the structural body of every wall, providing natural insulation and thermal mass.

02
Golden Straw

Wheat husk fibres woven into the clay for tensile strength and to prevent surface cracking.

03
Sacred Water

Binds the mixture into a living plaster that can be re-worked, re-plastered, and returned to the earth.

04
Cow Dung

A traditional natural antiseptic and protective final layer — the finish is smooth, dust-free, and enduring.

Sustainable Luxury

Let's bring back nature's wisdom

Simple. Sustainable. Timeless. A way of building that gave nothing to landfill and everything to comfort.

Enquiries

The heritage philosophy

Why stay in a mud cottage?+
Earthen architecture offers a comfort no concrete building can replicate — naturally cool, deeply quiet, and rooted in centuries of Indian building wisdom. It is heritage luxury, not rustic accommodation.
Do the cottages have modern amenities?+
Yes. Every cottage includes premium bedding, hot-and-cold running water, organic bathroom amenities, high-speed WiFi, and discreet climate assist for extreme conditions.
Are the cottages comfortable year-round?+
Absolutely. The 18-inch earthen walls stay cool through the desert summer and retain warmth through cold winter nights — nature's own thermostat.
Are they safe during the monsoon?+
Our cottages are finished with a traditional water-repellent lime plaster (chuna) used across Rajasthan for centuries. Roofs are terracotta-tiled with proper drainage.
Is WiFi available?+
Yes — high-speed fibre connectivity is available throughout the estate, though we gently encourage disconnecting.
Is the lodge family friendly?+
Very. Our Family Villa is designed for multi-generational travel, and the estate offers safe, expansive grounds for children to explore.
